Marilyn Brown attended Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville 1967-1971 on a full Activity Award Scholarship in music, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Music-Piano Performance. While at S.I.U she established herself in the St Louis metropolitan area and taught up to 60 students per week.

She was a member of the Illinois State music Teacher's Association. Her students won divisional competitions in S.M.T.A.

Ms. Brown graduated from S.I.U. and began teaching part-time applied piano at Beloit College. At the same time she was awarded a graduate scholarship in piano at Northern Illinois University-DeKalb. After one semester, she left graduate studies at N.I.U to live and teach in Wisconsin and was accepted at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, attending two semesters.

In 1974 Ms. Brown joined the faculty of the Madison School of Music-Madison Wisconsin. Her years at Beloit Wisconsin, 1971-1978, were filled with numerous recital and performing experiences. In 1976 she represented the state of Wisconsin in the Miss America pageant and was a talent award recipient. She was an established piano instructor in the greater southern Wisconsin area, where she belonged to the W.S.M.T.A. and Federated Music Clubs, and adjudicated Federated Music Club competitions.

In 1978 Ms. Brown moved to Boston Massachussetts. During this time she taught privately and at Steinerts Piano Co. In 1982 she moved to Cape Cod, joining the faculty of the South Shore Conservatory of Music, where she taught for five years.

After the birth of her son William in 1988, Ms. Brown became increasingly interested in early chilhood music and movement education. She obtained training in Suzuki piano, Yamaha music education, Kindermusik, Harmony Road, and Musikgarten. She taught early chilhood music and movement classes at the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic-Providence, R.I., the Marion Art Center-Marion, MA, the Children's Depot-Marion, MA, the Wareham Early Childhood Childcare Center, and at her studio, Agawam Keyboard Arts in East Wareham, MA.

During the 2001 school year Ms. Brown taught part-time general music at Decas and Hammond Elementary school. In 2002, she completed training in Musikgarten and Music Together. In 2003 she attended piano masterclasses at the Coursi International Di Musica in Urbino, Italy. In 2004 she was trained in Music for Young Children, a Canadian music education method based on the Royal Academy of Music national curriculum standards.
