Marko Pavlovic, Pianist
Marko Pavlovic was born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. The 21-year-old pianist began studying piano at the age of 9 and won the Yugoslav National Competition for Young Pianists just six months later. He immediately came to the publics attention, and many performance and media appearances followed. At the age of 13, Marko made his solo recital debut at the Novi Sad Hall in a nationally televised performance. The following year, he performed Chopins 1st Piano Concerto with Novi Sads Camerata Academica. At the age of 15, Marko graduated from the Music High School and became the youngest college student at Yugoslavias elite Art Academy of Novi Sad where he studied with Kemal Gekic.
By the age of 16, he has won prizes at 25 national and international competitions including: Gina Bachauer Competition in Salt Lake City, the Chopin Competition in Taiwan, Stresa Competition in Italy, Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte in Czech Republic, Chopin International in Novi Sad and Petar Konjovic in Belgrade. Marko has performed in England, Germany, Italy, Russia, Hungary, Taiwan, Iceland and the United States including New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Aspen, East Hampton, Texas and Ohio.
At age 16, Marko received a special invitation to continue his piano studies in the United States. He spent three years at The Curtis Institute of Music studying with Seymour Lipkin on a merit-based full scholarship and was also the recipient of the Roy Pressman Fellowship for Piano. During these years, he performed at many top summer festivals including: the Aspen Music Festival, PianoFest in the Hamptons and International Keyboard Festival in New York City.
Marko has continued to perform and garner awards. Marko won the Piano Fellowship and was the Concerto Competition winner at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. As a result, he performed Prokofievs Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Festival Orchestra. Markos latest triumph was in April 2004 at the Kingsville International Competition in Texas. As the top piano winner, Marko will return next season to perform with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra.
Marko has played in numerous master-classes for many of the top piano teachers including Arie Vardi, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jerome Lowenthal, Garry Graffman, Claude Frank, Earl Wild and John Perry. Currently, Marko is studying with Ivan Davis at University of Miamis Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music on a full tuition scholarship.
