Kirk Whipple & Marilyn Morales, Duo Pianists / Composers

2005 Year in Photos ~ August 29, 2005 ~ Molièrres, France

(then back to St. Martin de Vésubie)

What an incredible day for a drive into the mountains!

The weather was cool and skies were clear.

Saxophonist Caterine Naget, Marilyn & Maurice Ricci. Just before this picture, Maurice told Frédéric that he "was driving like a little French girl." Frédéric replied, "Well Maurice, you can get out and run alongside the car if you wish!"

During World War II, six nazis entered the town of Molièrres in the winter. They did not kill anyone, but they used their flame throwers to burn the town to the ground. This stone ruin was left by the villagers as a monument to the hardships they had to overcome. > > >

< < < The highest peak in the region is over 3,000 meters at the summit.

Hmmm... What might have taken place on these old steps over the years?

(Below L) Marilyn points to the village outdoor water supply.

(Below R) Caterine explains about the annual baking festival that occurs in Molièrres. This old stone oven is shared by all of the villagers.

Molièrres still lifes.

(Below L) Frédéric and Maurice are hard at work in the kitchen while (below R) Marilyn, Caterine and Kirk visit the local chapelle. The photo of Frédéric and Maurice was taken with a flash. Actually, since there is no electricity in Molièrres, the kitchen is very dark. Frédéric and Maurice need candles and their spelunking head lamps to see what they are cooking.

Le Menu:

Pan roasted chicken and *Girol mushrooms in a light cream sauce

Potatoes, bread and wine

Pears with chocolate sauce

*The day before this outing Frédéric and Maurice went into the mountains to collect the Girol mushrooms. Kirk said, "Wow! These must be the best mushrooms in all of France!" Frédéric replied, "No, these are the second best mushrooms in France. You should come back in April when the best mushrooms are available!

After lunch... Good friends, espresso and cordials, the magnificent mountains...

What else might a chef need besides a quick nap?

Later that night...

(Above L) Caterine and Maurice join Kirk and Marilyn at their favorite restaurant in St. Martin de Vesubie, Le Treille (the Trellis). Maurice swore that he needed to get back to print some photos of the wedding he had shot the day before. The next day he told us that, after leaving the restaurant around midnight, he finished the prints around 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning!

(Below L) The duo's favorite inspiration to take long walks ~ Chocolate Mountain! The honey treble clef in cream was added to delight the artists!

(Below R) Chef Patrick celebrates with a round of champagne!
