The duo's last big excursion day in France - and wow, what a day!

After centuries of conflict between humans and wolves, the wildlife preserve Alpha, Le Temps de Loups, has been a (ahem) "pet" project for Mayor Gaston Franco. This park and educational center was opened during the summer of 2005 to local and international acclaim. Kirk and Marilyn are pictured here in with the director of the center. On his left is one of Mayor Gaston's aides, Florence, who chauffeured and accompanied the duo on their outing. > > >

(Below, L & R) There are two educational buildings in the park where visitors enjoy a fun and interesting multi-media experience. A very original three - part fiction/documentary tells the tale of resolving the conflict between wolves and humans from three different perspectives. Pictures were not allowed, so you will have to go see for yourself! Then you get to enjoy the hike. And maybe you will be able to see some wolves!

One of our favorite photos of St. Martin de Vésubie. > > >
Lots to see! The peach colored house behind Kirk is the oldest building in the town and dates back to the 14th century. Our friend Martine Johnston said that her father has painted this house. Of course, the bubbling stream runs down the middle of the cobblestone street. The Hôtel Gélas is behind Marilyn above her head, with the mountains and forest in the far background. |

< < < Above the town of St. Martin de Vésubie is La Madone de Fenéstre. (The Madonna of the Window) Local lore has it that, through the years, the Virgin Mary has appeared to the devout in a window in the mountain. Notice the window gap in the mountain on the left center of the zoom photo above. |

Inside the church. The art works here date back to the 12th century. The statue in the center is the original. > > > |

(Above R) The entrance to the church is on the wall on the right. < < < Kirk stands next to one of the concert announcements for the duo. Only a few dozen posters were put up around the area, but both concerts were packed! The local crowd really turns out for good music! |

The most famous cat in St. Martin de Vésubie! > > > We commented to Frédéric that he was "such a nice pussycat." Frédéric replied that, This cat is famous throughout the village for beating up all of the dogs." After we turned our back on him it was not even a minute later when he was chasing a dog down the street! |
